Q:What is the target market for the Mobile AMD Athlon™ XP-M processor?
A:The Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor 2200+ is designed for thin and light mobile PCs targeted toward business and consumer customers, joining the existing family of Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processors for desktop-replacement, transportable and low-power notebooks and tablet PCs.

Q:What differentiates the Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor from other Mobile AMD Athlon processors?
A:The Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor 2200+ is a low-power processor for thin and light notebooks. It is designed to take up less space and consume less power than processors for full-size transportable and desktop-replacement notebooks. All AMD mobile processors feature AMD PowerNow!™ technology, a dynamic power management solution for extended system battery life.

Q:What computer manufacturers offer notebook PCs based on the Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor 2200+?
A:Averatec has announced availability of a convertible notebook/tablet PC.

Q:What are the features of the Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor 2200+?
A:The Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor 2200+ has 640KB total cache (128KB L1 and 512KB of L2 cache). Like all AMD mobile processors, it includes AMD PowerNow! technology for extended system battery life, as well as a micro-PGA package design. It also has a low thermal design power (27W) to support thin and light notebooks.

Q:What chipsets are available to support the Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processors?
A:Solutions are available from ATI, SiS, ULi and Via to support the Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor 2200+.

Q:What are the features of the Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processors based on the “Barton” core?
A:Each Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor has 640KB total cache (128KB L1 and 512KB of L2 cache) to enable improved multitasking and improved overall performance. Like all AMD mobile processors, these processors include AMD PowerNow! technology for extended system battery life.

Q:What do you expect the battery life to be on systems based on the Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processors?
A:Battery life is expected to be up to 3 hours using a single battery. However, the battery life of a notebook computer system is dependent on BIOS; power management; other hardware, such as core logic, graphics, drives and memory; LCD panels; and most importantly, battery size and type. Even the OS used can have a major impact. The Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor with AMD PowerNow! technology can significantly extend the system battery life, providing the performance you need when you need it.

Q:What is AMD PowerNow! technology and what benefit does it provide the notebook user?
A:AMD PowerNow! technology is a dynamic power management technology. It can significantly extend the system battery life of notebook PCs and provide performance on demand. This means that your applications get high performance when needed, while automatically saving critical power when CPU demand is low. AMD PowerNow! technology is a hardware capability that together with software allows the processor to run dynamically at different frequencies and voltages depending upon CPU computing demand.

Q:What wireless solutions are available for Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor-based notebooks?
A:AMD works with many industry partners to offer competitive chipset, graphics and wireless features in AMD processor-based notebook platform designs. Advanced 802.11a/b/g solutions are available from companies including Broadcom and Atheros – either as a mini-PCI card that can be integrated internally in the system, or as a PCMCIA card that a user can add in an external slot. AMD supports open standards that allow customers to seek the best cost/performance value when selecting a wireless vendor.

Q:Where is the Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor manufactured? What process technology is used?
A:The Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processors are manufactured on AMD’s advanced 0.13 micron copper process technology at Fab 30 in Dresden, Germany.
